Host Committee

A voluntary initiative of entrepreneurial entities, established ad hoc, with the intention to contribute actively to promotion of Slovakia and provision of services during the Bush-Putin Summit.

Members of the Host Committee are convinced that the visits represent an excellent opportunity for Slovakia to present itself. And, of course, they are interested in making use of this occasion. They are also convinced that funds available from public resources cannot cover the whole spectrum of Slovakia?s presentation, and thus they are ready to devote their know-how and available funds for the benefit of promotion of Slovakia during important events, and the meeting of the two presidents is, no doubt, an event of paramount significance.

Dear friends,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Bratislava on behalf of the Host Committee, a private initiative of the leading businesses in the Slovak Republic in honor of your visit.

Only a few years ago, one could stand at Bratislava Castle and look across the Danube River at the "iron curtain" separating the former Czechoslovakia from Austria. This week, that same castle, now a symbol of a free and democratic Slovakia, will be the site of a historic meeting between the leaders of two of the most important countries on our planet.

The meeting and its setting are both evidence of the remarkable change in Slovakia, but the actual progress is wider and deeper and it is transforming the life of Slovakia.

Slovakia is now the fastest growing economy in Central Europe. This has been direct and measurable result of wide ranging reforms enacted within the last several years. The reforms were bold and widely praised, but they remained faithful to our democratic principles and to our commitment to both the freedom and responsibility of individuals. They were based on our deep conviction that Slovakia's greatest asset is our people, who have proved they have the courage and conviction to do what it takes to reform society and grow the economy.

This is a powerful modern success story, and the Host Committee would be honored to share with you the secrets of the Slovak success and why Slovakia has become so exciting for investors.

To achieve that, we offer ourselves: Our most senior executives and decision makers are making themselves available personally during your visit to tell you about our country, its development and business potential. The attached packet will tell you the many ways we can arrange these meetings, at your convenience.

Our modern Slovakia is at the true heart of Europe, and for a few days it will be the heart of the world. We want to make sure you truly experience the warmth of that heart and learn the promise of our people. We want you to return home and tell your friends and colleagues about Slovakia, Europe's best kept secret, and then someday, return to us!

Yours sincerely,

Ivan ?tefanec
Chairman of the Host Committee

ACTIVITIES OF THE HOST COMMITTEE:

The Host Committee (the HC hereinafter) was formed on the initiative of business entities in Slovakia with a view to preparing the accompanying events for foreign and local journalists and delegations during the Bush - Putin Summit. The HC offers a variety of activities, each of them being special in its own way.

HC Welcome Pack

Already at the time of registration you will receive a HC Welcome Pack with materials about the country that has a number of experiences in store for you. You will become the owner of a VW Touareg - albeit in the form of a small model - Volkswagen's first off-road vehicle that is much appreciated in Europe and in the world. We hope that you will like this small token of welcome. A CD will introduce you to Slovakia, a modern country and an attractive tourist destination in the heart of Europe; you can learn about investment opportunities from the brochure Investment in Slovakia; and you can find information in English about current developments in the Slovak Spectator weekly. However, the activities that we want to specifically point out to you can be found at HC Events Passport. The site features the offer of informal events prepared specially for you in order to help you get acquainted with the country where you'll spend the next few days.

HC Round Trip

Press briefings and meetings can drain energy even from professionals. The HC can help you replenish it by visiting any of the establishments offered in the HC Round Trip. With the Passport you will automatically obtain a visa for entering selected restaurants or bars in the historical centre of Bratislava and enjoying the Slovak hospitality - delicious "beverage of Gods" from the company VNO NITRA, unmatched Slovak beer Golden Pheasant, traditional taste of Coca-Cola, and special offers of various restaurants. Those of you, who like the combination of pleasant and useful, can take part in informal discussions with prominent personalities representing the values of Slovakia.
